Week Without Walls

November 18th to 22nd , 2024 Week Without Walls for Secondary Students, Grade 6 to Grade 12

WWW centers around outside-of-the-classroom learning experiences. Participation in WWW is not considered optional, as it is an extension of our program as it reinforces the skills in our existing curriculum. In addition, it also promotes the development of leadership skills, cooperation, community service and expands students’ understanding of the local environment. This off-campus experience can, at times, take students out of their comfort zones and put them into new situations that will help them grow and develop. From November 18th to 22nd, Thalun International School hosted its annual Week Without Walls trips, offering students both local and overseas experiences. This year’s destinations included Vietnam for the outbound trip and various locations in Yangon, such as WOW Sports Complex, Moe Yunn Gyi Wetlands, Yum Yum Noodles Factory, New Generation Youth Foundation, and U Thant House. The trips were thoughtfully designed to provide students with valuable educational experiences.

Throughout the journey, proper supervision was ensured by our dedicated faculty members, making it a safe and enriching adventure for all.

Vietnam Tour

This year’s Week Without Walls overseas trip to Vietnam was a 4-night, 5-day adventure through the vibrant cities of Hanoi, Ha Long, and Ninh Binh. The trip aimed to immerse students in Vietnam’s rich culture and breathtaking scenery, including the stunning Ha Long Bay, mesmerizing caves, cultural shows, and an unforgettable cruise experience.

This segment of the learning journey was truly remarkable and left students with lasting memories and valuable insights.

Yangon Tour

For our Yangon Week Without Walls trips, we explored several locations to provide students with diverse learning experiences:

Day 1 – Wow Complex

We visited WOW Sports Complex, where students engaged in various sports activities to build sportsmanship, health, and physical strength.

Day 2 – Moe Yunn Gyi Wetlands

At Moe Yunn Gyi Wetlands, students immersed themselves in nature by exploring wildlife, enjoying scenic boat trips, visiting a fisherman village, and discovering the treasures of the wildlife museum.

Day 3 – Yum Yum Factory

A visit to the Yum Yum Noodles Factory gave students hands-on exposure to business operations. They observed the production process from raw materials to finished products, as well as the quality control and research behind it.

Day 4 – A visit to NGYF

Our secondary students partnered with the New Generation Youth Foundation (NGYF) for meaningful service-learning activities. These included English book reading, art, music, football, and other physical education games with the children.

Day 5 – U Thant’s House

The students visited U Thant’s House, where they learned about U Thant, the former UN Secretary-General, his diplomatic journey in promoting peace among nations, and his remarkable achievements. This visit inspired students to consider leadership and global citizenship.
